Seun Kuti has released a new single titled “Dey,” featuring Damian Marley, in a historic collaboration between their respective musical dynasties. This track fuses afrobeat with funk, soul and reggae, symbolising a bridge between Western Africa and Caribbean cultures and promoting African unity. The lyrics of “Dey” challenge materialism and societal norms in Nigeria, advocating for a life of authenticity.
“Dey” is the lead single from Seun Kuti & Egypt 80‘s upcoming album, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), which is slated for release on the 4th of October via Record Kicks. This album follows their 2018 release, Black Times, and is executive produced by Lenny Kravitz. Artistic production is handled by Sodi Marciszewer, who previously worked with Seun’s father, Fela Kuti. The album seeks to blend classic afrobeat sounds with far-reaching musical elements, preserving the traditional essence while introducing a modern twist.
