London-based duo Raz & Afla return with a vibrant reinterpretation of Lamont Dozier’s 1977 track “Going Back to My Roots”, released via Wah Wah 45s. Blending traditional African rhythms, live percussion and electronic textures, their version brings a fresh Afro-house feel to a track that’s become a staple in their live sets, anchored by themes of identity, movement, and connection to ancestry.
“We love this song,” says Afla Sackey. “The lyrics resonate with us […] talking about the meaning of connection to a land and its people. You can’t choose your heritage and where you are born. It’s always a part of you, and we like to celebrate that.”
Previously reworked by artists like Richie Havens and Odyssey, Raz & Afla bring their own Afro-house energy to the track, fresh from the release of their acclaimed second album, Echoes of Resistance.
