Progress unveils “Officer and a Gentleman,” a standout track from his six-track EP Making Progress, released on the 21 of January 2025 via The Garden.
Born in Barbados and shaped by the island’s deep reggae roots, Progress began performing as a teenager, earning recognition for his dynamic delivery and socially conscious lyrics. After relocating to Canada in the 1990s, he refined his signature sound, a fusion of energetic dancehall vocals, deep roots reggae rhythms, and blues-infused instrumentation.
“Officer and a Gentleman perfectly” embodies this style. Featuring the soulful vocals of Anthony King, the track is a rich, live-band reggae piece that tells a heartfelt story of young love. Progress’s rhythmic toasting intertwines with King’s melodic harmonies, set against a smooth groove of warm guitars, pulsing basslines, and crisp drum patterns.
With its vibrant energy and evocative storytelling, “Officer and a Gentleman” highlights Progress’s ability to blend personal narratives with reggae’s timeless essence.
