Pimienta Records is a new reggae label and production project based in Barcelona, founded by musician and producer Ares Català. “Same Old Love” is its latest single, released on 23 March as a two-track digital release: the vocal cut by Eipriil and a dub version by Roberto Sánchez.
Eipriil is already part of Spain’s reggae and dub network, having released previously on La Panchita Records. On “Same Old Love”, she sings over a one-drop riddim with bass, drums, organ and guitar. The lyrics move between desire and doubt, repeating the question “do you know how it feels to be mine?” and describing a relationship that feels both safe and unpredictable. The refrain “same old love might get us hurt” returns through the song, acknowledging risk without stepping back from it.
Roberto Sánchez has been running A-Lone Ark Muzik Studio in Santander for years, and his dub version strips the vocal out, reworks the mix with reverb and delay, and pushes the bass and drum forward.
The single ties together two points in Spain’s independent reggae circuit: Barcelona, where Pimienta Records operates, and Santander, where Sánchez has been recording roots reggae and dub for over a decade.
