“Numes nº2” is a composotion for flute quintet by Paulo Rego, drawing from Brazilian modal music with touches of samba-jazz. Dedicated to Malta, a renowned saxophonist and flutist, the piece celebrates his artistry and a shared connection to Brazilian instrumental traditions. With intricate melodies and rich harmonies, it reflects Rego’s skill in blending his Brazilian roots with the refinement of chamber music.
The piece is featured on Epifanias (2024), the final chapter of a trilogy that includes Alucinações Musicais (2022) and Sukha (2023). While Alucinações Musicais explored bold, contemporary chamber works, and Sukha delved into meditative and spiritual compositions, Epifanias offers a versatile collection of pieces for ensembles such as wind quintets, saxophone quartets, and string quartets.
