Nizar Rohana, an acclaimed Palestinian oud player, is set to release his third album, Safa, on the 15th of November via Australian label Worlds Within Worlds. This album is his first to focus entirely on solo oud performances, offering an intimate reflection on his life’s journey with the instrument. Safa weaves together traditional influences from Egyptian, Iraqi, and Turkish oud styles while showcasing Rohana’s personal evolution as a musician.
The album includes compositions that blend rhythmic and melodic patterns, as well as lyrical pieces and improvisational tracks inspired by Arab classical music. Recorded during a challenging time marked by the ongoing war in Gaza, Safa carries deep personal meaning for Rohana, including a tribute to his late father in the track “Darwish.”
The title track, “Safa,” is the centerpiece of the album, capturing personal, historical, and cultural stories through music. You can listen to and stream “Safa” now “Safa” HERE
