Daily Discovery: Niño Fantasma – Cumbia Underground

“Sin cifras y sin fichas / Armando la movida” — no stats and no industry tags, building the movement. That line runs through “Cumbia Underground”, the latest single from Stockholm band Niño Fantasma. The six-piece – Javier and Marco De Las Casas, Jonas Skubic, Eric Linvill, Yaki Raw and Sergio Aracena – came together in Sweden with a sound built from cumbia, ska, dub and punk, treating their shows as spaces where migrant communities can gather, dance and speak openly.

Released on 15 November 2025, the track ties cumbia to dub, electronica and punk. A processed lead voice sits over deep electric bass, offbeat guitar with delay, bright horns and cumbia percussion on caja and bombo, switching between sung phrases and a more confrontational delivery, matching the band’s description of a song that is both bailable and direct.

Lyrically, it stays with underground sound and street life, and the group describe it as born from vibra callejera and from a wish to connect traditional rhythms with a more urban, alternative sound.
