Mahamadou Sidibé, also known as Niarela Papou, hails from Niarela, a neighborhood in Bamako. His stage name pays tribute to his roots. As a songwriter, composer, and performer, Niarela Papou has collaborated with notable artists like Cheick Tidiane Seck, Vieux Farka Toure, Kasse Mady Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyaté, Madou Sidiki Diabaté, and Safi Diabaté.

From his latest album Papou Barana, the single “Armée Mali” stands out with its fusion of traditional and modern West African sounds, offering insights into the Malian army. The lyrics of the song, sung in Bambara, touch on themes that resonate across West Africa, calling upon authorities and populations to work towards lasting peace.
