French reggae collective Mystic Firm teams up with Jamaican reggae veteran Perfect Giddimani on their latest single, “Duppy Catcher.” Released on 20 June and produced by Mystic Firm Productions, the single draws on Jamaican folklore – duppies as spirits or energies to be confronted – and reworks that concept through steady rhythmic pacing and measured lyrical delivery.
Known for his 2004 breakout “Hand Cart Bwoy” and a consistent catalogue on Giddimani Records, Perfect delivers in a calm, reasoning tone. His lyrics offer focused meditation on protection, against spiritual intrusion, negativity, and internal doubt.
The instrumental is stripped-back, shaped around a classic one-drop rhythm. Mystic Firm give it breathing space: warm, rounded basslines, minimal percussion, and dubwise textures that serve the message
“Duppy Catcher” is a stripped-back, meditative take on roots reggae, offering both a nod to tradition and a signal toward inner resistance in the present tense.
