Las Panteras, a Perpignan-based duo of Cuban vocalists Eliene Castillo and Martha “Martica” Galarraga, debut with “Hasta Cuándo,” a powerful anthem of gender equality and resistance. Infused with Afro-Cuban rhythms, funk, and Cuban swing, their music delivers a bold Afro-feminist message, confronting societal norms with thought-provoking lyrics asking “how long” women must wait for true empowerment..
Both artists bring decades of experience: Castillo, trained at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory in La Havana, has collaborated with legends like Chucho Valdés and Silvio Rodríguez, while Galarraga, deeply rooted in the Yoruba musical tradition, has performed worldwide alongside Omar Sosa.
Their music balances powerful Afro-Cuban rhythms, rich vocal harmonies, lyrical improvisation, and a fusion of traditional and electronic elements, shaping a sound that is both expressive and dynamic. Their feminist perspective is both defiant and celebratory, portraying strength and resilience without compromise.”Hasta Cuándo” is the first of a series of releases, with “La Vendedora” following on the 20th of April, leading up to their debut EP Orunmila on the 6th of June.
