Saxophonist Julien Ndiaye, known as Jultrane, returns with “My Sister,” a standalone single blending 1950s/60s jazz with a modern edge. Originally composed in 2009 as a tribute to his younger sister Léana, the track captures his signature melodic depth and expressive phrasing.
Recorded on the 18th of July 2024 in Cagnes-sur-Mer, the session brings together a strong lineup. Monika Kabasele delivers vocals and lyrics, while Ndiaye leads on saxophone and composition. Cyril Galamini’s trombone arrangements shape the track’s harmonic depth, supported by Christian Alte on trumpet, Gabriel Pierre on double bass, Fred D’Oelsnitz on piano, and Mailo Rakotonanahary on drums.
“My Sister” blends traditional jazz elements with modern influences, reflecting the artistic vision of the Jultrane Sextet Duplex, a project initiated in 2018 by Ndiaye and Galamini. The track aligns with the sextet’s goal of exploring original compositions and reimagined jazz standards, drawing inspiration from figures such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, and Dexter Gordon.
