Released on 11th October via Kaxambu Records, “Upi Biti” is the latest track to emerge from FurmigaDub’s studio in João Pessoa, northeastern Brazil. The track weaves the organic, earthy tones of the rabeca with bass-heavy electronic beats, offering a fresh take on Paraíba’s musical heritage by transforming traditional rhythms into something even more vibrant and unmistakably bold.
Behind FurmigaDub is Fabiano Formiga, whose varied experience spans symphony orchestras to local Brazilian bands. With a tempo of 176 bpm, “Upi Biti” showcases Formiga’s skill in blending indigenous Brazilian rhythms with the high-energy pulse of global bass.
Since 2011, Formiga has been using his musical roots to blend the sounds he grew up with—like ciranda, caboclinho, and baião—with the driving energy of contemporary bass music. “Upi Biti” doesn’t just pay tribute to this heritage; it’s a call to keep Paraíba’s unique culture alive and kicking in a world that’s quick to forget.
