Daily Discovery: Fatbabs – Skanking Loud ft. Kimeco, Vanzo, Davojah, Cheeko & Walshy Fire

French producer Fatbabs brings together a broad cast of voices from different corners of the reggae, dancehall and hip-hop spectrum on his latest single, “Skanking Loud”, released via Big Scoop Records. Featuring Kimeco, Vanzo, Davojah, Cheeko and Walshy Fire, the track blends stylistic influences without losing rhythmic coherence. Built around a heavy one-drop groove, it layers bright brass, filtered synth stabs and deep bass hits—pulling from both early 2000s reggae revival and the more digitally driven pulse of modern global dancehall. Fatbabs’ production is unhurried but deliberate, giving each vocalist the space to contribute distinctly without stepping over one another.

The line-up reflects Fatbabs’ steadily growing international network. Kimeco, a young French-Cameroonian singer, sets the tone with a warm, syncopated hook that draws from neo-soul and lovers rock. Vanzo, part of a new wave of Jamaican dancehall voices, delivers a rapid-fire verse with clarity and urgency. Davojah, a familiar collaborator in Fatbabs’ catalogue, offers a more meditative presence—his roots reggae background evident in a delivery that leans toward reflection and uplift. Cheeko, known from the French collective Phases Cachées, bridges languages and styles with a bilingual verse grounded in the intersection of rap and reggae. Closing the track is Walshy Fire, best known through Major Lazer but also a key figure in global bass culture—bringing his signature vocal style and DJ energy to seal the track’s internationalist intent.

“Skanking Loud” is a celebration of music as a communal experience: anchored in rhythm, driven by movement, and elevated by the diversity of its voices. Built for sound systems and open-air gatherings, it’s a direct call to dance, but also a subtle blueprint for cross-cultural exchange. The track continues Fatbabs’ trajectory of pan-genre collaboration—seen previously in his work with Naâman and Davojah—while pointing towards a broader, globally minded project.
