Released on 6 June via Kabul Fire Records, “HOOYOO” brings together two of Berlin’s most distinctive producers: Farhot, the Afghan-German beatmaker known for weaving samples and political nuance into head-nodding, cinematic beats, and Siriusmo, the elusive, genre-blurring artist whose catalogue — from Mosaik to collaborations with Modeselektor — defies easy categorisation. Built around a flipped sample of 4 Mars’ “Dhulka Hooyo,” a Somali track known for its rich percussion and vocal layering, “HOOYOO” reworks East African rhythm into something offbeat, joyful and completely new. Farhot’s instinct for dusty, emotionally charged sampling pairs unexpectedly well with Siriusmo’s off-centre electronic instincts, creating a track that feels alive with possibility.
The result is anything but generic. Farhot threads the 4 Mars sample into a tight, syncopated groove, letting the original’s rolling percussion loop with subtle shifts in timing, giving the track a loose, hand-played feel. Siriusmo drapes the rhythm in glitched-out synths and vocal chops that flutter in and out of tune. There’s a kind of joyful distortion at play: vocals pitch-bend like old cassette tapes, hi-hats stutter in strange patterns, and the track constantly threatens to fall apart without ever losing its pulse.
“HOOYOO” is the second single taken from RAQS (105–118 BPM), Farhot’s forthcoming mini‑album, set for full release on 25 July. You can listen to and pre-order the album HERE
