Daily Discovery: Elana Sasson – Bahari Digar (feat. Kaveh Sarvarian)

Elana Sasson, a vocalist, composer, and bandleader blending Persian and Kurdish traditions with jazz and Mediterranean influences, releases “Bahari Digar,” the first single from her upcoming album In Between, out on the 18 of April via PKMusik. Set to the poetry of Forough Farrokhzad, the song explores themes of impermanence, longing, and the search for belonging.

Rooted in Persian classical music, “Bahari Digar” is based on the Nava mode, incorporating jazz-influenced harmonies and improvisation. The arrangement features Kaveh Sarvarian on ney, with piano, double bass, and drums, blending traditional Persian phrasing with contemporary jazz textures. The ney’s microtonal improvisations interact with Santiago Bertel’s piano, Manos Stratis’ double bass, and Victor Goldschmidt’s drums, creating a dialogue between past and present.

Sasson’s vocals carry Farrokhzad’s verses with clarity and depth, reflecting the song’s themes of change and emotional restlessness.
