Daily Discovery: Ciro Belluci – Identidade

Ciro Bellucci’s new single “Identidade” returns to a samba written by Jorge Aragão, a song he first heard in childhood at his grandfather’s house. Now based in Barbacena, Minas Gerais, Bellucci revisits it with an ear sharpened by years as a guitarist, flautist, singer, actor, arranger, and producer. He defines himself above all as an intérprete: an artist who reclaims existing music and reshapes it as his own.

“Identidade” features the guest voice of Ilessi, whose trajectory as a singer and composer intersects with Bellucci’s interest in contemporary Brazilian song. The arrangement, directed by Bellucci, sets his voice and flute alongside Gladston Vieira on drums, Matheus Duque on sax tenor, Pedro Gomes on bass, and Pitágoras Silveira on piano.

The video, directed by Jhully with photography by Marcella Calixto, extends the project’s collaborative dimension. It forms part of a wider programme supported by the Aldir Blanc cultural funding.

“Identidade” follows his 2022 album Recanto, where Bellucci recorded works by Gilberto Gil, Guinga, Djavan, Toninho Horta, Chico Buarque, and others, alongside one new composition. That record, shaped by theatrical and musical collaborations, positioned him as a young interpreter of MPB’s varied repertoire. His version of “Identidade” now builds on that foundation, treating samba as both personal memory and ongoing dialogue.
