“Odessa Bulgarish” is the latest single from Chutney, a klezmer fusion sextet based in Sydney. Released on the 6th of August as part of their debut album Ajar, the track is a lively klezmer dance inspired by the cultural heritage of Odessa, where some band members trace their familial roots.
Typically used to open their performances, the song sets an energetic tone with its vibrant rhythms and the dynamic interplay between the band’s violin and clarinet.
Diverging from traditional klezmer, Chutney blends a variety of musical genres into their work, a fusion clearly demonstrated in “Odessa Bulgarish.” The track also includes a distinctive, brassy, burlesque-style breakdown following the solos, adding a fresh twist to its traditional influences.
