Daily Discovery: Cavolo Nero – Dance of the Scorpion

From Utrecht’s live circuit, Cavolo Nero bring funk, disco, and afrobeat into one restless sound. “Dance of the Scorpion”, from their debut album Mountain Disco, captures that mix with sharp rhythm and psychedelic edge.

The six-piece group build the track around drums and electric bass, locking in a solid rhythmic base before horns and synthesisers cut through. Guitars strike across the beat while analogue keys stretch the soundscape, shaping a piece closer to a live jam than a studio recording. The structure rises and falls with the same precision the group bring to their festival sets.

Cavolo Nero built their reputation through appearances at Popronde and ESNS before reaching stages at Down The Rabbit Hole, Into The Great Wide Open, and Valkhof Festival. Mountain Disco, released on LAB Music, carries that live foundation into the studio with unfiltered energy and timing shaped on the road.
