Bru-Kin is Sylvie Nawasadio and Bart Petitjean: Brussels and Kinshasa in the name, forty years of combined practice in the music. Sylvie came through Zap Mama; Bart through Hakuna Patata and the Crosswind Collective, a multi-instrumentalist who builds arrangements around plugin experimentation. “Become Happy” is taken from the duo’s debut album, released May 2025, and brings in Ray from Zimbabwe on soukous guitar.

The track is Afro-jazz with funk underneath. Ray’s soukous guitar runs through it; Sylvie’s vocals move between melody and scat; Bart handles the rest of the instrumentation. The rhythms are built for the title.
