“Korle Gonno” is the debut single by Accra Quartet, a project formed by Ghanaian trombonist Elikplim Kofi and American guitarist Nathaniel Braddock. Recorded in a one-room gospel studio in Accra’s New Town district, the track blends experimental jazz with Ghanaian and North American influences, reflecting the musicians’ involvement in Accra’s Club +233 jazz scene and the Korle Gonno community.
The track is from the quartet’s upcoming album Gbɛfalɔi, which will be available on vinyl and digital platforms in August via Illinois-based label FPE Records.
The band also features Nii Addotey Brown “Asalasu,” who specialises in traditional instruments and environmental sounds, and Daniel Tettey Black, an experienced drummer in Ga traditions who has performed with artists like Hugh Masekela and Stevie Wonder.
Elikplim Amewode Kofi has toured internationally and leads the Brass Democrat project, teaching brass instruments to rural children in Ghana. Nathaniel Braddock, based in the US, frequently collaborates with African musicians and leads groups such as Occidental Brothers Dance Band International and Trio Mokili.
