Gbɛfalɔi (Travelers) the debut album by Accra Quartet, featuring Ghanaian trombonist Elikplim Kofi and American guitarist Nathaniel Braddock, was released yesterday, 9 August, by FPE Records. It includes the single “Batobe,” recorded in a gospel music studio in Accra’s New Town district.
This collaboration was sparked by a meeting in 2017 at a concert in Accra and was solidified through a WhatsApp conversation in 2019. Accompanied by percussionists known as Black and Brown, Accra Quartet music blends traditional African elements with avant-garde improvisation, adding a distinctive flavour to the contemporary Ghanaian music landscape.
