“Turamagan” is the latest single from Aboubakar Traoré‘s upcoming album Sababu, releasing on the 29th of November via Zephyrus Records. The track honours Turamagan Traoré, a famed warrior chief from the ancient Mandingo Empire, celebrating his legacy and the rich history of the Traoré family.
From Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, Aboubakar is a virtuoso of the kamélé n’goni and breathes new life into the stories and struggles of the Mandingo Griots.
Aboubakar Traoré’s band, Balima, drives Sababu with a sharp fusion of West African roots and contemporary energy. Bassist Zonatan Dembélé, formerly with Rokia Traoré, anchors the groove, while guitarist Désiré Somé from Bai Kamara Jr.’s Voodoo Sniffers adds a bold edge. Percussionist Guillaume Codutti and balafon and djembe player Geoffrey Desmet, both from Sysmo, layer in dynamic depth.
