The fear across the world that Trump’s ‘extreme vetting’ executive order was a poorly conceived smokescreen to appease an angry, xenophobic minority have been proved once again. After the US consulate initially granted visas to Yussef, Ahmad and Kareem Dayes, they have now been revoked. Between them, they make up members of Yussef Kamaal and United Vibrations.

Both bands were booked to play on the Jazz Re:freshed stage at SXSW. This show and line up, organised by Adam Moses, represents months of planning and years of graft leading up to this opportunity to showcase the best in UK jazz at this world renowned new music festival in Texas. A statement by Gilles Peterson’s label, Brownswood, reflects the frustration felt by this last-minute decision: “The fact that the visa was issued and then revoked has left no time to appeal the decision as the band were due to travel tomorrow”

United Vibrations have released the following statement: “We are sad to announce we will NOT be performing at SXSW in Texas because our ESTA’s have been revoked under the new Executive order. We were looking forward to connecting with our brothers and sisters stateside to share our music. Why weren’t we let in? Our Names? The music? The colour of our skin?

Moses Boyd, Shabaka Hutchings and Sarathy Korwar will play the Jazz Re:freshed showcase on Wednesday night at The Main II.”
