Black Sherif takes his own sound apart on SUN SHERIF, the six-track EP he released through Blacko Management and EMPIRE in early September. The Konongo-born singer and rapper calls it “a deconstruction of everything Black Sherif’s done sonically“, a method that gives him the obsession he says he needs when working through fifteen or twenty demos at a time.

That sound took shape on the “First Sermon” and “Second Sermon” singles of 2021, Twi verses set over highlife melody and UK drill drums, and in 2022 “Kwaku the Traveller” carried it to number one on Apple Music in Ghana and Nigeria. Two albums followed, The Villain I Never Was in 2022 and Iron Boy in April 2025.

The EP brings in the Ghanaian singer AratheJay on “Forever” and the Trinidadian production duo Full Blown on “Love Again”, and Sherif sings “Jolie” alone, moving between Twi and English towards a chorus built on the French word for pretty. The verses are made of small acts of devotion: a New Year’s drive to her door, songs written for her in the manner of Kurt Cobain, a habit dropped because she disliked it.
