Three drummers set up in Tayob J.‘s Lisbon studio and started playing something fairly ordinary. Then, as Tayob tells it, the rhythm started tasting of India and Africa, and he stopped, because now he knew what the track was about. He already had the name. A Mozambican friend had once told him to picture migration as geometry: most families draw a V, two starting points meeting in one person. His mother is Brazilian with Polish grandparents, his father Mozambican with roots in Goa. His family draws a W.

That is the tenth track on A Beleza do Erro, his debut album, released 11 June on the independent label NOIZ DISCOS. After fifteen years engineering records for others at his Estúdio Noiz, it is the first with his own name on the cover.

The drummers were Bateu Matou: Ivo Costa, Quim Albergaria and Rui “Riot” Pité, the latter two known from PAUS and Buraka Som Sistema. Costa and Pité have Goan roots of their own, which is partly why the rhythm drifted where it did. He brought in Selma Uamusse, the Mozambican singer long based in Portugal, to carry the hook, and Vinicius Terra, a rapper from Rio de Janeiro, for the verses. Under all of it he laid a heavy electronic sub-bass. He produced, recorded and mixed the track himself; Rodrigo Coimbra mastered it.
