“Beautiful Patience” takes its name from sabr jamil, the patience Yaqub holds in the Quran when his son Yusuf is taken from him, across years, without complaint. Ghuraba الغرباء, the London duo of Mohammed Salih and Abdullah Mufa, build the track out of that. Salih plays electric guitar across Gnawa, Saharan blues and Anatolian modal territory, Mufa on the Ocean Drum, a frame drum filled with metal beads that roll across the skin.
“Beautiful Patience” is one of the brighter tracks on Red Belly Robin, the duo’s second EP, released on 16 May, where Kazakh and Kyrgyz folk and a stray bluegrass lick open the vocabulary out from the heavier ground of 2025’s 6 Days. Both players are Muslim and work from inside the Sufi musical canon, and Salih has described the track as his reading of how the Yusuf story has shaped the way he sees the world.
