“Qué manera de quererte mal, qué manera de quererme mal.” Micaela Vita returns to this refrain throughout “Amor Tecnócrata”, a song she wrote about loving badly and knowing it. The verb querer, to love, to want, runs through every verse, each line restating the same desire from a different angle until the chorus names what all that wanting actually produces: “qué manera de querernos mal,” what a way to love each other badly. It is a song about the mechanics of wanting gone wrong, and Vita sings it like she knows the machinery from the inside.
At the ND Teatro in Buenos Aires, on the 6th of June 2025, Duratierra followed it with Mario Gareña‘s “Yo Me Llamo Cumbia”. Gareña, a Barranquilla-born composer, wrote the song in 1969 as a first-person portrait of cumbia itself, and it became one of the defining songs of Colombian popular music, recorded by Totó La Momposina, La Sonora Dinamita, and dozens more across the continent.
For the medley, Duratierra brought the percussion section to five. Nicolás Arroyo and Martín Beckerman from the core band were joined by three guest percussionists: Ximena Gallina, Agustín Alfonso, and Machu Terruzzi. On vocals, Ivonne Guzmán and Astor Saraco Vita. Guzmán is a Colombian singer, born in Bogotá, who has fronted Buenos Aires cumbia orquesta La Delio Valdez for the past decade: a voice rooted in the Colombian cumbia tradition, singing Gareña’s song inside a set otherwise built from Argentine folk forms, huaynos, zambas, chacareras, milongas. Juan Saraco played guitar, Valentín Bonetto moved between guitar, guitarrón, and ronroco, Tomás Pagano held the acoustic bass, and pianist Silvia Aramayo was present across the full concert.
This is the closing track of A Los Amores en Vivo en el ND, Duratierra’s first video-disco, recorded at the ND Teatro in Buenos Aires on the 6th and 7th of June 2025. The medley sits in the yapa: three tracks outside the main sequence, added to the release earlier this year. The Buenos Aires septeto won the Premio Gardel 2025 for A Los Amores in the Mejor Álbum Grupo de Folklore category.
