Idaho-based, Malawian singer and songwriter Mungo brings new light to his single “Have You Ever Been in Love” with a reggae remix that feels both grounded and effortless. Born in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital city, in 1998, Mungo (Casper Ligoya) grew up surrounded by music — from church choirs to school bands — before finding his footing as a recording artist in 2015.
He released his first widely heard single, “Come Thru”, in 2017 with producers Eril and Chance, followed by an album in 2018 and an EP in 2019. His most recent project, Aftermath, arrived in May 2025. His next album, already in the pipeline and due in 2026, will feature his younger brother and continue his mix of R&B, Afro-Pop, and reggae.
His influences include Busie, Beyoncé, Wizkid, Frank Ocean and Mi Casa, alongside formative listening to Oliver Mtukudzi, Nina Simone, Bob Marley and Hugh Masekela. Mungo cites a broad musical upbringing covering jazz and rumba, guided by his sister Alinane Mildred Mphande, whom he describes as his musical mentor.
In this remix, the rhythm moves closer to the roots of reggae, giving space for his lyrics to breathe. The repetition of “Have you ever been in love” builds into verses filled with warmth — “It feels like a summer on a patio / Even when the weather’s cold”. The remix keeps the lyrics at the centre, letting the rhythm carry their easy repetition and warmth.
“Have You Ever Been in Love (Reggae Remix)” appears on Aftermath : Deluxe and marks another step in Mungo’s steady rise as one of Malawi’s most adaptable voices.
