Egyptian trio Sharmoofers return with “Labubu”, a release that reasserts their role in shaping Cairo’s independent electro-pop landscape. The track arrived with a self-directed music video shared via their official YouTube channel, continuing the group’s focus on tightly produced visuals and theatrical presentation.
Formed in 2012, Sharmoofers now comprise Ahmed Bahaa (vocals), Mohamed El-Arkan (drums), and Farra (bass). The band first gained traction through satirical performances and an unconventional mix of Arabic lyrics and funk-inspired hooks. While their earlier output leaned visibly into reggae and brass arrangements, “Labubu” adopts a more hybrid direction — stylistically non-fixed, but still grounded in contemporary Egyptian pop aesthetics.
Lyrically, “Labubu” plays with contrasts between romantic confidence and social awkwardness. Delivered in a mix of Egyptian Arabic and English, the verses shift between flirtation, brand references, and class commentary.
“Labubu” follows UNFOLLOW, a five-track visual EP released in April 2025 through Gamma Music. That project matched each song with a dedicated video and moved between Afrobeats, lo-fi pop, and rhythmic hybrids.
