The Kingston Lions present their reworking of “Soul Shakedown Party”, originally recorded by Bob Marley & The Wailers in 1970. The single features vocals from Karell Wisdom alongside contributions from some of the most renowned reggae session musicians, including Robbie Lyn, Boris Gardiner, Mikey “Boo” Richards, and Uzziah “Sticky” Thompson.
The group was formed under the direction of the late Mikey Chung, whose career included collaborations with Lee “Scratch” Perry, Grace Jones, and The Rolling Stones. This project assembles legendary Jamaican session players who shaped the foundation of reggae, revisiting landmark songs from the 1960s and ’70s.
The album includes reinterpretations of classics such as “Young, Gifted and Black”, “Armagideon Time”, and “Israelites”. It also features guest appearances by Nick Hexum (311) and Dave Wakeling (The Beat/General Public).
Following the deaths of Karell Wisdom, Mikey Chung, and Uzziah “Sticky” Thompson since the recordings were completed, this release serves as a lasting testament to their contributions to reggae music.
