Daily Discovery: Savia Mestiza – Alma Grande

Psychedelia rises from the forest floor in “Alma Grande”, the latest single by Savia Mestiza, a quartet from the Sierras Chicas region of Córdoba, Argentina. Featured on their 2023 album El Llamado, the piece is built on a hypnotic cumbia rhythm,  channelling the group’s serrano identity through syncopated drums, sinewy bass and spiralling guitar motifs, while Rocío Táboas carries the lyric with urgency and resolve.

Formed in 2020, the band describes its sound as mestizaje: an intentional blend of Latin American percussive traditions, rock experimentation and poetic introspection. Táboas leads with vocals and accordion, co-writing the song with guitarist Bocha Torres, who also contributes keys and programming. Nicolás Bertini anchors the low end and harmonies, while Martín Gallo’s percussion work gives the cut its grounded propulsion.

“Alma Grande” explores collective strength with folkloric weight and sonic precision. It marks a defining moment on El Llamado, as the band digs deeper into its terrain.
