Daily Discovery: Dub Catalyst – Venom

Dub Catalyst release “Venom,” a track that tightens their fusion of dub, reggae and hip-hop into a more direct and politically charged statement. Based in Cheltenham, South West England, the group have built their reputation through a blend of live energy, stylistic crossover and lyrical focus on social issues.

“Venom” is driven by a steady bassline, sharp brass and minimal, deliberate percussion. The arrangement leaves space for the vocals, which address inequality and misinformation in a measured, unembellished style. The production is raw but controlled, maintaining tension without sacrificing clarity.

Their last album, Saves the World, suggested a move towards a harder, more stripped-back sound. “Venom” continues in that direction, with a leaner structure and more pointed delivery. Instrumental sections are restrained, giving the track a heavier sense of weight and purpose.

Dub Catalyst maintain their commitment to combining musical foundation with social commentary. “Venom” keeps close to dub’s low-end focus and atmospheric depth, while adopting the discipline and urgency of hip-hop.
