“Mandinga” is a Latin jazz and salsa song arranged by Toronto-based alto saxophonist Noah Abrahamse. The track features drummer Nicholas Mustapha, known for his dynamic work in Latin jazz, and percussionist Joaquin Nunez Hidalgo, a Cuban-born musician renowned for his expertise in Afro-Cuban percussion.
Abrahamse, a graduate of Humber College’s Bachelor of Music Performance programme, is renowned for his full-bodied tone and solos reminiscent of Paquito D’Rivera. He skillfully blends rhythms from Cuba and Latin America with jazz melodies, creating a unique and captivating sound. His use of percussion instruments like bongos, guiro, and cowbell further enhances this fusion. Leading The Mumbo Jumbo Combo, Abrahamse showcases his composition and arrangement talents, continuing to make significant contributions to the Toronto music scene.
