On Wednesday 11 February Dub Me Always is pleased to present a night of roots reggae, foundation dancehall and lover’s rock when DJ Ade of Nzinga Sounds meets Sista Culcha and Lady Banton of Seduction City, playing alongside the night’s regular host, DJ David Katz, plus, at 8pm sharp, special Reggae Month giveaways!

Nzinga Soundz was established in south London in the early 1980s by schoolfriends DJ Ade and the late Junie Rankin, and over time became one of the UK’s longest running all women sound systems. Nzinga Sounds was a regular feature at various community events and blues parties and appeared at noteworthy London venues such as the Astoria (supporting the Mighty Diamonds) and the Forum (supporting Burning Spear), as well as the Four Aces, the Seventy- Seven Social Club, the Africa Centre and the Mambo Inn, among many others. Nzinga also hosted a popular Sunday afternoon radio show on SLR, interviewing renowned figures such as Augustus Pablo, the Mighty Diamonds, Betty Wright and Ziggy musicians.’

Lady Banton began selecting in the mid-1980s in north London. She has been a sound system operator since the 1990s, playing reggae and dancehall with several other selectors on her sound system, Seduction City, one of the longstanding favourites of the Notting Hill Carnival. Lady Banton has also played at festivals such as Glastonbury, the Bournemouth Weekender and Strawberries & Creem in Cambridgeshire. ‘I’d like to express my admiration and respect for Junie Rankin and her partner, DJ Ade, of Nzinga Soundz,’ she explains. ‘They have been very supportive and helpful in the development of the sound
