Andes Collective & Secret Gem lands at Fox & Firkin in Lewisham on Friday with Secret Gem Session Vol. 2, drawing together three singer-songwriters with roots in Spain and Latin America for a bill that moves across R&B, cumbia, Latin pop and reggaetón.
The three sets lean in different directions. Miss Blanche, a Spanish-Swiss singer-songwriter based in London, brings bilingual R&B shaped by jazz, funk and hip-hop; British-Latina artist JSCA writes about migration and identity in Spanglish, her songs moving between cumbia, Latin pop and something quieter and more personal; and Colombian-British artist Lisey Tigra adds the hardest edge of the night, pushing reggaetón through live rock guitar and alternative pop.
That contrast is what gives the evening its character, with each set changing the temperature of the room without breaking the bill’s focus on Latin-rooted songwriting.
Fox & Firkin perfectly suits the bill: a long-running Lewisham venue with an outdoor yard and a strong grassroots music programme, which gives this night room to keep moving after the live sets end. Music runs from 7PM to 10.30PM, followed by a Club Saoco afterparty with Nora, Ana Isabella and DJ Steeve Rosè.
