We love it when music gives us the opportunity to travel and discover (more or less) hidden secrets, whether they’re in the form of sounds, artists or events.
Ariano Folk Festival clearly belongs to the latter category, but every summer it helps us to unearth new inspirations, and we learn something new about the first two categories too.

Since 1996, the music event, set in the hills of the secluded Irpinia (a hidden secret per se in the Southern Italian region of Campania), has brought more than 350 artists to the small town of Ariano Irpino, among them some of the greatest names in world music. Examples are Calypso Rose, who enriched last year’s line-up, or from the previous editions, Tony Allen, Chinese Man, Seun Kuti, Bixiga 70 and many, many more.
The 23rd edition, which will be set in motion on Wednesday 14th August and will close on Sunday 18th, will still honour the organic nature of the project, started by “a small group of friends in a small-town café”, but will also celebrate the long way that the festival has come, boasting another remarkable programme.
Throughout the five days of the event, the roads of the Italian town will resonate with the sounds of musicians like Gaye Su Akyol, the Bongo Hop, L’Entourloop, Eskorzo, Sofiane Saidi & Mazalda, Natty Bo & the Top Cats and dozens more exciting names.
That’s why we felt the need to compile a playlist of them and shine a light on one of the most authentic music festivals around.
