Boomtown isn’t just a festival; it’s a completely immersive experience, and that’s exactly what was intended when this festival was founded. It takes place in August every year in the beautiful countryside surrounding Winchester, Hampshire. If you’ve been to Glastonbury and enjoyed the hedonism and provocation of the South East corner, with its well thought-out set design, coupled with political and social commentary, then imagine this across the whole of Boomtown. Each year, the story builds on the previous years, and the combination of great music, art, and a compelling narrative leave one with ample ground for exploration, both sonically and visually.
The thing about Boomtown, which I’m not sure can be conveyed properly through words alone, is that once you step through the gates, a world is there for you to experience, as much or as little as you like. You can get as involved in the narrative of the chapters as you like, or you can just listen to the incredibly diverse music found inside every nook and cranny. Your ticket acts as a passport, transporting you to a world where music and art allow you to become a part of the story. Whether you’re skanking to D’n’B, dub, and reggae or moshing to punk in Diss-Order Alley, there is something to be enjoyed by everyone. I’ve tried to illustrate this through the playlist, by making it as diverse as possible. Although my own personal tastes probably shine through, it also showcases that verity of the Boomtown musical lineup.
