“Amaqatha Amancane”, The Joy‘s new single, is extracted from their upcoming debut album, available on the 21st of June via Transgressive Records.
The ensemble, rooted in South Africa’s Zulu a cappella tradition and inspired by the iconic Ladysmith Black Mambazo, embodies the powerful Mbube style, known as ‘lion’ singing. Their music captures the intense energy and cultural depth of this tradition, with lead vocalist Duzie channeling ancestral spirits in his performances.
“Amaqatha Amancane” was recorded live at Church Studios in London and features a video filmed during the session, showcasing the remarkable vocal talents of the group’s five members. The song depicts a lively South African gathering known as ‘Shisanyama’ where people enjoy food, music, and company.
The accompanying video is directed by Up The Game, known for their work with notable artists like Liam Gallagher.
