BBE has reissued Remi Kabaka‘s 1980 album Roots Funkadelia, from which “Funky Lagos,” is extracted. This follows their successful 2023 reissue of his 1976 album Son of Africa. Recorded in Los Angeles with The Commodores‘ brass section, the album is praised for its excellent production quality.

Roots Funkadelia spans a range of styles from juju to disco, featuring five tracks rich with diverse instruments, reflecting Kabaka’s ambition to blend various musical genres. The reissue celebrates West African music, seeks to reintroduce Kabaka’s impact to new audiences, and underscores his contributions to the global afrobeat scene.
