Pontea’s latest single, “Baran,” is a live-improvised track blending Persian poetry, haunting vocalisations, and acoustic guitar. Sung in Persian, “Baran” (meaning “rain”) reflects the connection between rain and tears, creating a meditative, trance-like experience.
A Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, Pontea merges Persian influences with contemporary soul, R&B, and ambient sounds. The daughter of Iranian Jewish immigrants, she channels her heritage into deeply emotive, improvisational music.
Recorded in a single take, “Baran” captures pure spontaneity and sacred musical expression. Part of her upcoming EP Channeled, the song serves as a ritual of surrender and release and introspection.
