Piers Faccini and Ballaké Sissoko present “Borne on the Wind”, the first single from their upcoming album Our Calling, due for release on 14 February 2025 via Nø Førmat! Records. Recorded live, this acoustic piece is inspired by the nightingale, a bird that migrates annually between West Africa and Northern Europe, symbolising the duo’s blend of Malian and British musical traditions. With Sissoko’s kora providing swirling, intricate melodies and Faccini’s lyrical storytelling rooted in folk, the song reflects on migration and connection across borders, with lyrics evoking images of nature’s cycles and a sense of return.

Our Calling, marks the culmination of a 20-year collaboration between the two artists, first introduced at the French label Label Bleu. Their partnership deepened in 2020 when Faccini sang in Bambara on Sissoko’s “Kadidja.” The ten-track album builds on their shared vision of cultural and musical exchange, with live recordings that highlight their ability to blend their distinct traditions.
