Daily Discovery: OBIDAYA – What May Be (Their Purpose)

“What May Be (Their Purpose)” appears as the second track on OBIDAYA’s album New Chapter, released worldwide on 14 November by Natural Prod. The recording places the Paris group’s four-voice line-up over Hammond B3, clavinet, bass and drum parts written inside the band’s established 1970s roots-reggae references. This vocal structure runs across the album, with rotating leads shared by Loïc Paulin, Uncle Raph, I Fi and Eliès.

The song questions human excess and profit-driven decisions that threaten collective wellbeing. Brass writing and rhythm parts carry that stance, while the line “Take some and leave some” gives the text a clear position on resource sharing and cooperative choices.

New Chapter brings together twelve tracks shaped by Rastafarian themes and the group’s long-established roots-reggae direction. The studio approach stays close to their Paris performances and Rootical Wednesdays sessions, keeping the same ensemble sound that defines their live set.
