“En el Caribe estoy triste” is the first single extracted from Meridian Brothers‘ upcoming album Mi Latinoamérica Sufre set for release on the 12th of July, by Ansonia Records.
This concept album explores the electric guitar within a tropical Latin framework, drawing heavily from African highlife and soukous traditions. The album avoids common rock clichés, favouring a clean sound that pays tribute to ’70s Congolese rumba, highlife, and afrobeat. It skilfully combines these styles with Latin rhythms in compositions that incorporate cumbia, champeta, Brazilian tropicalia, and psychedelic rock.
The album’s narrative, enhanced by Colombian artist Mateo Rivano’s visuals, follows the introspective journey of Junior Maximiliano the Third, exploring themes of identity and psychological states through a blend of humor and introspection.
