Daily Discovery: MELLOW MOOD x Romain Virgo – Pull Up

On “Pull Up,” Italian reggae mainstays Mellow Mood collaborate with Jamaican vocalist Romain Virgo in a cross-continental single that’s both grounded and expansive. Released 5 February via La Tempesta Dub, the single appears on the band’s seventh studio album, out since 11 April, and signals a renewed emphasis on analogue instrumentation and roots-driven production.

“Pull Up” features a deep, rolling bassline and a steady one-drop rhythm, complemented by vintage Hammond and Farfisa organ melodies. The Garzia twins, Jacopo and Lorenzo, deliver sharp, conscious lyrics, while Virgo’s soulful verse adds depth and authenticity to the track. The production, handled by Mellow Mood and mixed by longtime collaborator Paolo Baldini, maintains a balance between tradition and sharpness. The video, directed by Fernando Hevia, offers a quiet street-level narrative: a young boy handing out flyers, eventually crossing paths with Virgo, subtly reinforcing the song’s themes of community, continuity, and cultural transmission.

“Pull Up” is available on all major streaming platforms and offers a compelling preview of Mellow Mood’s recently released album, out on 11 April via La Tempesta Dub.
