Marcos Aganju‘s latest album Batuk-in, released on the 9th September across digital platforms, merges Afro-Brazilian rhythms with rock, experimental music, techno, hip-hop, and samba. The standout single, “Embalando,” captures the album’s essence with its layered percussive beats and Aganju’s signature electric guitar riffs. The lyrics explore themes of calm introspection, resilience, and the passage of time. The central metaphor of being “embalado na rede” (rocked in a hammock) conveys a sense of tranquillity and reflection, while the recurring image of “vago no vento” (wandering in the wind) suggests a timeless, free-flowing existence.
Aganju, known for his dynamic live performances, combines his skills as a composer and producer to merge traditional Afro-diasporic sounds with imaginative electronic elements. Collaborations with artists like Cire Ndiaye, Luan Okun, and Sound Preta further enrich the Batuk-in’s diverse sonic landscape. The album’s visual identity, crafted by artist Carolina Elis, complements the project’s thematic depth.
