French duo Malaka return with “Ulo,” a sharp new single featuring Brazilian artist Flavia Coelho and the first glimpse of their forthcoming EP Mang, due autumn 2025.
Built around two contrasting yet complementary voices — those of sisters Inès and Lucille — Malaka’s sound moves at the borderlands of folk, soul and pared-back acoustic groove. Their vocal interplay shapes a stripped-down but emotionally resonant aesthetic, rooted in simplicity and lyrical clarity. Coelho’s verse folds in Afro-Brazilian cadences and clipped Creole-influenced phrasing, bringing a textural contrast that subtly shifts the track’s emotional register.
Following the stripped-back intimacy of their debut EP Malaka Mai and a year of touring across France and Belgium, Ulo signals a deliberate broadening. The forthcoming Mang EP leans into this expanded scope — pairing acoustic discipline with collaborations that draw from Lusophone, West African and Latin sources.
