Lourdes Carhuas, acclaimed Peruvian singer and songwriter, debuts her solo compositions with the official music video for “Tu Negra Volverá” from her album Por Esas Trenzas. Drawing on 40 years of experience as a backing vocalist and composer, Carhuas narrates a mother’s hope for her son during the era of slavery in Peru. The song blends Afro-Peruvian rhythms like panalivio and festejo with orchestral arrangements.

Her album Por Esas Trenzas, recorded with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra and mastered by Ronan Chris Murphy, offers 12 tracks celebrating love, resilience, cultural identity, and Peru’s rich musical heritage. Featuring valses, festejos, tonderos, and boleros, it is a tribute to the nation’s coastal sounds.

Carhuas’ exceptional vocal and songwriting talent was recognised early on by iconic figures in música criolla and Afro-Peruvian music, including Eva Ayllón, Cecilia Bracamonte, Cecilia Barraza, and Fabiola de la Cuba. As a sought-after backing vocalist, she lent her voice to these legends, who also performed her compositions. Her poignant single, “Tu Negra Volverá,” continues this legacy, further solidifying her role as a transformative force in Peruvian music.
