Daily Discovery: Les Mamans du Congo & Rrobin – Ntima

Les Mamans du Congo & Rrobin, a collective project uniting Congolese storytelling and lullabies with hip-hop and electronic music, is back with a new single titled ‘Ntima’.

This musical collaboration gives importance to dancing, while also representing the experiences of Congolese women in a modern way.

The single, which anticipates the second album of the artists, celebrates the acceptance of women who cannot have children, as the Congolese culture has often shamed these individuals.

‘Ntima’ is a story of a woman who marries a man with seven children, only to be later ridiculed and blamed for her infertility. By narrating it, the musicians are hoping to reshape the perception of sterility and to give comfort to those women who have been affected by it.

‘Ntima’ is out now via Jarring Effects. You can find more info and listen to it here: https://lesmamansducongo.bandcamp.com/track/ntima
