Daily Discovery: Laura Itandehui – El Año Que Viene

Laura Itandehui, a singer-songwriter based in Mexico City, continues to evolve with her distinctive musical voice. Following the release of her 2021 self-titled debut album, which blended traditional Mexican rhythms with Latin folk and contemporary alternative pop, she released the single “El Año Que Viene” in December 2024.

This track, in a traditional ranchera style, explores themes of hope, change, and the inevitable passage of time, reflecting on personal growth and new beginnings. Laura has shared that “El Año Que Viene” holds special significance for her, written during a transformative phase in her life.

A few weeks ago, on the 19th of March, Laura unveiled Si Me Ven Alegre, the album from which “El Año Que Viene” is taken. This release strengthens her presence in the Latin American songwriting scene, showcasing her unique ability to blend traditional Mexican music with Latin American genres and refined pop, all while maintaining an authentic, emotionally resonant sound.

The musicians contributing to “El Año Que Viene” include Laura on vocals, guitar, and whispers, Pablo González Sarre on double bass, Gabriel Puentes on drums with brushes, Roberto Verástegui on organ, and Gustavo Guerrero providing whispers. Their collaborative effort brings depth to the song, blending ranchera with far-reaching elements and influences.
