Daily Discovery: Kunyai – Kiriyo

Today’s Daily Discovery stops in Brussels with Kunyai, a Belgian producer working where deep and organic house intersect with African rhythm patterns and vocal incantations. “Kiriyo”, released on 15 December, marks his first appearance on Cascade Records.

The track opens with a chorus of voices that sits between chant and sung line, looping over layered percussion and a weighty low end. Elements arrive in steps: the drums thicken, electronic parts shade the harmony, and the push-and-pull between vocal line and rhythm gives the track its shape.

“Kiriyo” sits alongside “Kodi” and “Kgatha“, singles that brought Kunyai into view for Electric Eden Records and underlined his approach to house music: patient build, recurring percussion figures and a clear relationship between live-leaning rhythm work and electronic production.

Taken together, these releases show how the Brussels producer treats African vocal traditions and percussion as the core of his electronic work.
